As a result, most of the general application boards (Celotex GA4000 and Celotex TB4000 range) were downgraded in their thermal performance from 0.022 to 0.023. As a result of this Celotex changed the names of the boards affected by this to TB3000 and Celotex GA3000 range.

This change as a result of the Grenfell Tower disaster has now been undone. FAQs

Which is the cheapest insulation board? ›

Fiberglass Insulation tends to be the cheapest on the market.

Is there an alternative to Celotex? ›

If you are looking for a thermal insulation that is significantly cheaper than Celotex, you could use EPS Polystyrene. Quinn Therm has an extensive range of PIR insulation products with top-performing thermal conductive properties for use in floors, roofs and walls.

Which insulation board is best? ›

Polyisocyanurate (PIR) is one of the most efficient insulation material used in construction. PIR insulation provides acoustic and thermal properties, rigidity, durability and excellent compressive strength.

Is Celotex the best insulation? ›

Celotex products are highly reflective and reflect more than 90% of radiant energy to outperform traditional insulation in high moisture locations. Celotex boards are a top choice for insulation because they offer a superior combination of thermal, acoustic and fire performance.

What is the cheapest way to buy insulation? ›

The most common form of home insulation is the “batt and roll” or “blanket” type, which is the least expensive to purchase and install. Its most common material is fiberglass, but if you're looking for an alternative, check out these natural fiber options: Mineral wool. Cotton (recycled denim)

What insulation board has the best R-value? ›

Polyisocyanurate: Known as polyiso for short, polyisocyanurate foam has the highest R-value per inch (R-6.5 to R-6.8) of any rigid insulation. This type of rigid foam usually comes with a reflective foil facing on both sides, so it can also serve as a radiant barrier.

Why is Celotex so expensive? ›

Celotex is a fairly top-end product in terms of price, but the varying thicknesses and sizes make it difficult to confirm a specific amount. The higher cost is largely due to the foam and difficulty in manufacturing this type of board. Of course, you will need a reliable supplier.

Which Celotex to use? ›

The XR4000 Insulation from Celotex is the perfect insulation for this insulation. It is available in a variety of thicknesses from 110mm to 200mm. Works well for insulation installations for walls, roofs, and floors.

What is the thinnest insulation with the highest R-value? ›

Thermablok® Aerogel is a revolutionary advancement in thermal technology offering the thinnest insulation available to prevent thermal and cold bridging. Classed as a Super Insulation, Aerogel has the highest insulation value of any known material with the lowest thermal conductivity value of any solid (0.015W/mK).

Do you need a vapor barrier with Celotex? ›

Celotex does need a vapour barrier, as a vapour barrier will help to prevent moisture and air from seeping through the wallboard and into the insulation.

How long does Celotex insulation last? ›

How Long Does Celotex Last? Celotex, if left undisturbed once installed can be expected to last around 60 years.

Does Celotex require an air gap? ›

It's essential to create a space between your Celotex insulation boards and the roof itself, to allow air to circulate. This will then help prevent damp and condensation, and in turn, mould. A sensible air gap, we would recommend, is somewhere around 25mm-50mm.

When did Celotex go out of business? ›

Celotex Corporation. Celotex manufactured asbestos insulation and construction materials from the 1920s to the 1980s, and it operated an asbestos mine until 1986. Asbestos litigation forced the company into bankruptcy in 1990.

Who manufactures Celotex? ›

Celotex is a manufacturer of PIR insulation. The business is currently part of Saint-Gobain Construction Products UK limited, which is a member of the Saint-Gobain Group.

How can I save money on insulation? ›

In an attic or under a floor, where there is more room, you can boost the insulation value of a lower-rated material simply by using a thicker layer. As a rule, the more insulation you add, the more money you'll save.

Does higher R-value mean better insulation? ›

The term "R"-value represents how well insulation restricts heat flow. To test for R-value, a piece of insulation placed between two plates in a laboratory. Heat is then passed through the material to test the thermal conductivity, measured in BTUs per hour. The greater the "R"-value the better the insulation.

What is the difference between blue and pink foam board? ›

Main Difference Between Pink And Blue Foam Boards

The two products also have the same insulating power. However, blue foam boards are manufactured by Dow Chemical Co. whereas the pink foam boards are manufactured by Owens Corning company. The boards are marketed under different brand names.

Is it better to use insulation with a low or high R-value? ›

An insulating material's resistance to conductive heat flow is measured or rated in terms of its thermal resistance or R-value -- the higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness.

How thick should my Celotex be? ›
